Quinnipiac Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine has been providing outpatient physical therapy services to the North Haven and Hamden communities for over 20 years. Owned and operated by physical therapists since our inception, we provide outstanding and convenient care with a focus on putting our patient’s best interests and well-being first.

We specialize in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of non-surgical and post-operative orthopedic injuries. Our therapists are experts in the treatment of sports-related injuries, as well as neurological conditions such as concussion and vestibular related issues.

David Mikos, Quinnipiac Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine

David Mikos, DC, PT, MCTA

Owner

Dr. Mikos established Quinnipiac Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine in 1996. Focused on providing the most comprehensive approach to manual therapy in the region, he has built and developed Quinnipiac Physical Therapy into one of the most trusted centers in the region.

He received his bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University in 1990 and received his doctorate degree in Chiropractic from the University of Bridgeport College in 1996. Two years later, in 1998, David became an accredited teacher in the Mulligan Concept Teachers Association. This association teaches a non-thrust mobilization technique, emphasizing the immediate restoration of pain-free movement. He continues to teach this concept nationally.

David lives in North Haven with his wife and three children and devotes much of his time to the youth and high school sports programs.

Marie Nierenberg, Quinnipiac Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine

Marie Nierenberg, DPT

Clinic Director

Dr. Nierenberg joined Quinnipiac Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine in 2006. She received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac College in January of 1999 and completed her transitional doctorate in physical therapy from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in 2014. She completed her post-college training with a focus on acute care, trauma and wound healing.

Marie has spent the last 15 years pursuing advanced certifications in orthopedic physical therapy. She is pursuing certification in women’s pelvic floor dysfunction. Marie lives in Northford with her husband and children.

She enjoys running, baking, reading, yoga and spending time with her family.

Stephen Giblin, DPT

Physical Therapist

Dr. Giblin joined Quinnipiac Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine in 2019. Steve graduated from Quinnipiac University in May 2016 with a B.S. in Health Sciences and a minor in psychology. He then went on to receive his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University in May 2019. Steve has completed a MULLIGAN™ manual therapy course and plans to complete all courses. Steve lives in Trumbull and enjoys spending his free time longboarding, snowboarding, and camping.

Frank Raccio, PTA, ATC

PT Assistant

Frank joined Quinnipiac Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine in 2008, and we have been so happy to have him on our team. Frank received his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Tampa in 2007. While a member of our team, he also worked at North Haven High School as the athletic trainer until 2011. Continuing his education, Frank received a degree as a physical therapist assistant from Naugatuck Valley Community College in 2014.

Frank is certified by Sole Supports Orthotics to cast and distribute custom orthotics. He is also certified in Functional Range Release for the lower limb. Continually improving his skills, Frank has been trained in the Mulligan Concept Technique which utilizes mobilizations to allow a pain-free range of motion.

Frank works in conjunction with our physical therapists on staff to provide exceptional treatment within the plan of care for our patients.

Lisa Altarescu, PTA

PT Assistant

Lisa Altarescu is a licensed physical therapist assistant. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and a Physical Therapist Assistant license from Naugatuck Valley College. Lisa has been working in the orthopedic setting for the past 3 years and is equally interested in post-operative and conservative orthopedic care.

Lisa has taken continuing education courses on conservative treatment of the spine and pelvis and has completed multiple trainings and internships with the NYC ballet as well as the United States Tennis Association to treat a variety of orthopedic and sports injuries. Lisa enjoys teaching anatomy, yoga, meditation, and mindfulness at schools, studios, and corporate offices throughout New Haven County and is passionate about continuing her education in all areas of her PTA practice and teaching. Lisa prides herself on patient care, connection, and kindness.

Anthony Ah-Mu, ATC, CSCS

Athletic Trainer

Anthony Ah-Mu joined Quinnipiac Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine in 2018 as an Athletic Trainer. He currently splits his time between QPTSM and North Haven High School where he provides care to the student-athletes. Anthony received his Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training from Southern Connecticut State University in May of 2018. Anthony has continued his education and has received certifications in both strength and conditioning (CSCS) as well as dry needling. He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
